Physics in Leiden for students from abroad
About The Leiden Physics Institute (LION)
The Leiden Institute of Physics has about 30 staff members who are all involved in both research and education. Within the institute, experimental (about 70%) and theoretical (about 30%) research is conducted, in both cases of a fundamental character. The educational system prepares for this type of research which is also called curiosity-driven.
Leiden is very strong in Fundamentals of Science, with research ranging from quantum effects on Nano scale to the origin of the universe (cosmology), but also physics of life processes. Leiden has already brought forward three Nobel price winners: Lorentz, Zeeman and Kamerlingh Onnes!
